Connie is so old…

And so sore. We got the first really big snow storm on Tuesday. It seemed alright on Tuesday though, I rode my bike to and from class and it wasn’t to terrible except I kept getting snow inside my clothes and eyes. Come Tuesday night at about 11:30, I figured I was gonna get prepared for the next day by cleaning the ice off my car and shoveling some of the snow so I wouldn’t have to rush tomorrow or be late for work. So did the basics of the windows and windshields even though it was freezing. Do some homework, watch some TV and I go to bed.

Next morning, I’m suppose to have class at 9:05. I wake pretty late at 8:40ish. Seems like we got some more snow, but I figure I’ll get a broom and sweep it off my car then I’ll be on my way. I dawdle around before leaving and just decide to get put work clothes on figuring I’ll drive to school and just leave for work from school so I’ll be there early. Seems like a lot of snow outside so I hesitate and go to the computer to check out closings even though UD never really closes. Just my luck, classes before 10 AM are canceled! Woot, extra sleep I think. I jump back into bed for an hour…hour and a half Then it’s time to go to work.

So I grab all my stuff and finally go outside for the first time that morning. Well, lots of expletive words, my car was covered with at least a quarter inch of ice. My doors were frozen shut! I had to use my keys to pry the ice off my door off, in hindsight I probably should of used something else because there are tiny key marks on my car now. After 10-15 minutes, I get the driver side door opened! Well, I think wtf now, I got to at least get the ice off my driver’s side door and windshield. I grab the shoddy ice scrapper I have and start chipping away. I don’t get very far on the front windshield and the handle breaks off. Just great, I have to use my hands on a tiny little plastic scrapper head to deice a huge windshield. I wasn’t getting very far and my arms were starting to hurt, figured some water might help… Grab a bucket from my porch, go inside via my garage because I didn’t want to get my floors all icky. Use the water, not of much help besides making the ice more transparent. I keep getting ice in my eyes, so I go back inside to get snow goggles. On the way in, I notice some super ice scrapper in my garage. Grab the snow goggles and the super ice scrapper, yes it was sturdy plastic probably with some kind of metal inside. I use it on my halfway done windshield and it just takes off huge chunks of ice! I was like yes! My windshield is clear and I use the super ice scrapper on my back windshield and windows of the car, amazingly enough it didn’t take long with the super ice scrapper, maybe 15-20 minutes. Just as much time I spent trying to open my door. Of course it’s over an hour later now and I’m just as late for going to work whom I’ve called twice. Initial call was like I’m gonna be there, just gonna be late, so much ice! Second call was like um I don’t think I’m gonna be there, I just broke the ice scrapper and I’m scratching away ice with my fingernails and I’m about to collapse (exaggerated a bit, but I was just about to give up on trying to get to work and just go back inside to warmness).

This should be enough snow suffering for one day, but no… I come home and I can’t get my car into my driveway. I live off one of the main streets so when the plow comes, a wall of snow is made against my driveway. I can get my car half way in, but it just can’t clear the mound of snow. I try shoveling with my car in the driveway, doesn’t work, I try forcing the car with stomping on the gas, no go. I finally have to put my car in the road (where else can I park in the middle of the night) with the emergency lights on and move the mound of snow. Part of it is muddy and nasty, the other parts are hard frozen chunks of snow. Finally get enough snow out of the way, and my car goes most of the way into the driveway when I push on the gas a bit to hard, though it won’t go any further back now.

My shoulders are still aching, my hands and fingers are hurting. I had to spend 10 hours at work in somewhat wet frozen pants, couldn’t feel my toes for like 5 hours.

All this makes me wish I was back in high school or something. In contrast, my brother had probably the following day:

Wake up, go on computer, school is closed, woooot!

Back in bed until noon or later.

Wake up to play games on the computer

Mommy makes him food.

Plays more games.

Mommy makes dinner.

More games!
