For the record, never ever going out to the store on Black Friday. I don’t even know why I did this year. I actually planned on going at 5 AM and maybe one of those first people in the store, but I guess doubtful as people had been waiting all night. Plus the fact I ended up sleeping in because I stayed up until 2 or 3 AM.
Anyhow, get up at about 9 AM, and head off to store to maybe get the digital camcorder. I mean who seriously wants a miniDV tape camcorder? I drive to the store and the place is packed, cars are everywhere since everyone and their grandmas are at the store. I figured I got lucky when I was able to get a spot in the parking lot. But, as I pull in, my entire car shakes. Doh! Doh! I had hit the truck next to me :(. Well, I get out and examine the truck, he basically had no damage what so ever except some of my paint on his the rubber part of his bumper. My car on the other hand has a dent and paint chips coming off.
Not gonna be a good day I thought…. The camcorder I wanted was sold out, so I wanted to opt for a Canon ZR500 for $200, but I was persuaded by the sales guy to get a JVC GR-D370 for $30 more. At the time 32x zoom seemed so much better than 25x zoom, check out was a whole other ordeal… I get out of the parking lot without hitting any other cars and head off to work.
Being a slacker (well, actually for once I arrived at work like 15-20 minutes early!) I had to look up the reviews for this unknown JVC camcorder and well they sucked! Much worst than the cheaper Canon model I initially had picked. I teeter on whether or not to go back to store to return the POS. The deal is sealed once I learn that an additional cable needs to be purchased to hook it up to my computer.
So, today during my lunch I went to store thinking that the crowd would have died down because everyone went out yesterday. Boy oh boy, was I ever more wrong. The exterior lights in the parking lot had gone out, so there were state troopers directing traffic in the mall which was a mess. I finally get to the parking lot of CircuitCity and had to circle around the building before I could find spot and luckily not hitting any more cars even with the poor visibility. All those cars meant there was lots of people inside, but I decided to think well I’m just returning something, shouldn’t be long, everyone else is buying stuff.
Of course, I was wrong, the customer service line was the longest even though they had like 5 people behind the desk. So begins the wait wait wait…. Finally, it’s my turn, returning the camcorder was easy. The other part of my trip was to pick up some stuff I ordered online, it was kinda no surprise they couldn’t find all the items. However, the rep substituted up for me, which was nice. At first, she substituted down, but I think just by error. Unfortunately, the whole getting “express pick up” took at least 15 minute if not more. I leave and don’t hit anything leaving the parking lot. The traffic is horrendous on the way back to work, and of course I’m late getting back.
So all in all, wasted 2-3 hours, dented my car, and no digital camcorder.
On the online front, I was able to place an order for a 32” LCD, but I don’t think I qualify for the $150 “one day” rebate because I ordered at 2:30 AM, technically the next day. But, if I were in CA, it would still be the same day, I’m mulling over if I’m gonna cancel or not. At least that purchase, took me all of 30 minutes to place (I forgot my password and had to wait for the email…). While, still a moderately good deal without the rebate, I could certainly wait longer for the TV, I’m sure it will be on sale again, I’m not dying to have the TV…..
More and more I think about, 32” ain’t all that big, maybe I should wait and spring more for a 37” or a 42” or even a 50”! Of course my house is dinky and no so accommodating for large TVs, so I have to go with a wall mount LCD. Or maybe I get a new house ;). Yep, definitely got issues…
I need to stop with the spending, my credit card will be maxed out in no time, I had to start carrying an additional credit card because one just wasn’t enough. My car goes in to “surgery” tomorrow, which is about $300 to replace my control arm bushing. I have no idea what that even really is, but apparently it’s what causes my car to drive shitty at low speeds. Now, the kicker is that I went in for them to look at my brakes which I had estimated to be about $100 for the set, but now it’s $300 for some weird part. Plus, my check engine light has been lit for the past month or so, engine is running “lean” and power driving switch. Those aren’t even being looked as part of this repair, and they want $85 to do a diagnostic! Um, yea right, all you do is hook up the scanner to the bottom of the dash and the computer does it’s thing. I’ve already pulled the codes anyhow…. O2 sensor which is about $30-$40 and that power steering switch as ridiculous as it sounds is real and runs about $40.
Spending
- Car repair $300+
- Big TV $500+
- Wii and/or Xbox 360 $250- 650, console only
- Car insurance bill $2k
- Spring tuition/ Winter tuition $4kish +
- Digital camcorder $200
- Misc x-mas presents for the kids $??
- Vacation $??
- New laptop $??
Calculated over $7k, and $6k of that is necessary, I’m gonna go cry in a corner.
